A Happy Groupon Client!

As many of you know, last March we offered a Groupon for a mani-pedi-massage package. Since then, there has been Groupon-mania at the salon as we booked all the lucky people who purchased the packages. Below is an email from a happy customer who enjoyed her salon visit:

"Ann did my massage and I really liked her, she was very nice. Mary downstairs did my manicure. I liked her too, she was very nice. Last night Lauren called to ask how my services were and I told her I really enjoyed my visit and I really liked how unpretentious the environment was. I liked how the employees interacted with each other, they all seemed to have a lot of respect for one another and were consistently considerate of each other. Even the young girl at the front desk was so nice.

I know it was very overwhelming with the influx of business but everyone seemed so in control and not stressed. I’m going to go back as soon as they get another shipment of Moroccan oil because they have a buy 2 get one free special running until October. I want to buy shampoo and conditioner and get the oil for free." -- Jennifer Goldberg, Sept 10, 2010

Thank you, Jennifer, for you kind words!

Skin Care: Back to Basics

While doing make-up for my Brooke Burke twin bride last Saturday, one of the bridesmaids asked me what my one go-to tip would be for skin/makeup. I really wanted to give her some groundbreaking phenomenal never-before-been-published nugget. But I had to go right back to my tried and true roots: A Good Skin Care Regime. Sorry to disappoint. But through the years of my own suffering with acne and seeing my clients throw money away, I needed to be honest. In addition to glowing skin, a good skin care regime will make a flawless makeup application possible.

What makes a Good Skin Care Regime?

1) Start with a facial from an experienced hygienic esthetician. This person should be able to give you some insight to what kinds of products are needed for your skin based on your age, skin type and what you are willing to spend and the time you are willing to put into making it work.
2) Purchase and use the products as instructed by the professional. Remember, your skin didn’t age or develop acne overnight. So changes will not be seen overnight. Two weeks of a new regime should be a sufficient amount of time. Then, schedule a follow up with the professional to discuss your new regime and see how it is working for you. BE HONEST about how you follow your program so the professional can make a true assessment of your results.
3) Once you find a good routine, stick with it. But also realize that other factors such as change of season, medications, hormones and stress can really change your skin. A skin care routine you used when you were 25 will probably not be as effective when you are 35.
4) Don’t fall prey to the counters at the department/drug stores, unless they have a licensed esthetician examining your skin and recommending a product. Otherwise, most have sales people that have been trained to sell their line by using fancy buzz words. Next thing you know, $300 later, you have the wrong products or a program you can’t afford to keep up with.

So it’s back to the basics for my skin care advice.
