Peptides... what are they?

Peptides are made up of amino acids, the building blocks for proteins that provide structure in the cell membrane. In skin care, they can stimulate collagen production and help prevent the breakdown of collagen already present. Below are a few different kinds of peptides used in cosmetics:

Pentapeptides, one of the most effective peptides, has been shown to reduce wrinkles and smooth the skin. It is one of the key ingredients in Bioelements Power Peptide. This ingredient can be listed as pentapeptide palmitoyl, palmitoyl tripeptide 3, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 or matrixyl.

Copper peptides have been used for its healing effect on the skin.

Neuropeptides act as “nerve blockers” to muscles in the face. Nicknamed “topical botox” The jury is still out whether or not the penetration is deep enough to be effective.
